DIRECTORS' REPORT
The Directors of Dairy Australia Limited submit their report for the year ended 30 June 2007.
DIRECTORS
The names of each person who has been a director of the company at any time during or since the end of
the financial year and the period for which they were a director are set out below together with details of
each Directors’ qualifications, experience and special responsibilities and organisations in which each of the
Directors has declared an interest.
MAX ROBERTS, CHAIRMAN
Max has been dairy farming in the Bega valley since 1982. He is a Director and
Deputy Chair of Bega Cheese. He has held several other Board positions including the
Australian Dairy Herd Improvement Scheme and New South Wales Farmers Federation.
Max has been active in industry organisations as a former Chair of the NSW Farmers
Dairy Section and vice-president of Australian Dairy Farmers Ltd. Before becoming a
dairy farmer, Max had a long career as an ABC journalist and broadcaster.

DR MIKE GINNIVAN, MANAGING DIRECTOR
Mike is an experienced agribusiness executive. He joined Dairy Australia following
an extensive career in senior management roles with international and Australian
companies, including Bunge Industrial Pty Ltd (meat, smallgoods and industrial cereals),
Tassal Ltd (aquaculture) and Sirius Biotechnology Ltd (biotechnology). Early in his career,
Mike worked for Victoria’s then Department of Agriculture as a research scientist.

GEOFF AKERS
Geoff is a dairy farmer from Tallygaroopna in Northern Victoria. He has over 10 years
dairy farming experience and extensive experience in dairy research, development
and extension. Geoff worked for Victoria’s then Department of Agriculture (Target 10
and operation mid lactation) and the Kyabram Research Institute. He spent four of six
years on the Murray Dairy Board as chairperson and two years on the National Dairy
Alliance Board. Geoff was also a director on the Australian Dairy Farmers Board, a
Central Councillor of the United Dairyfarmers of Victoria, and was active on the Council
farm sub-committee.

DR ANNE ASTIN
Anne has been the Chief Executive Officer for Dairy Food Safety Victoria since its
establishment in 2000. Her background in chemistry and biochemistry led her to
education and research before spending almost 20 years in the Victorian public sector
in roles as diverse as public policy, chemical and pharmaceutical assessment, and
change management. Anne has previously been a Director of the Royal Botanical
Gardens, Melbourne.

JOHN DOYLE
John has had an extensive career in corporate development and business planning
with companies such as Kraft and Kodak. John was a director of Kraft Foods for more
than 17 years and served as a member of the Australian Dairy Products Federation
management committee and on the Australian Dairy Industry Council for 8 years. Soon
after being appointed as a Director of the Australian Dairy Corporation (ADC) in 2002,
John was appointed Acting Managing Director and managed the ADC’s transition to
Dairy Australia.

KELVIN JACKSON
Kelvin is a Director and Deputy Chairman of Bonlac Foods and is currently Deputy
Chairman for Bonlac Supply Company. For the past 15 years he has been a Director
of Toora and District AB Co-operative. Kelvin is also a dairy farmer who has run his
own agricultural contracting business for 20 years.

DR BARRY KITCHEN
Barry’s career has spanned R&D, and commercial management. He was a member
of the Board of Management for Cadbury Schweppes Australia (1985-2003) and a
Director (2001-2003). He has been Managing Director, Innovation and Science for
the Asia Pacific region and was previously Managing Director of Cadbury Asia. Before
joining Cadbury Schweppes, Barry was Director of the Gilbert Chandler Institute of
Dairy Technology and previously held senior scientific R&D positions in dairy research
in Queensland’s Department of Primary Industries. He is currently a Director and Chief
Operating Officer of Horizon Science Pty Ltd and a Director of Farm By Nature Pty Ltd.
